Brendan Greene set ''to build a brand-new experience outside of the Battle Royale genre.''
PlayerUnknown Greene is working on a brand new title, ''to build a brand-new experience outside of the Battle Royale genre.''
It's been quite some time since we saw the first entry from developer Player Unknown, after releasing PUBG, almost three years to be exact. Now though, it's been confirmed that the developer has a new project in the works called Prologue.
Prologue: what we know so far
From the 30-second teaser trailer, there hadn't been a great deal given away, other than the fact that it'll take on a first-person POV style of gameplay. You play the role of the protagonist taking shelter from a storm while peering into the trees in search of your pursuers. We can hear search dogs growling and barking, which insists our hero is on the run.
You might consider whether there is any legitimacy behind the trailer at all, considering the account hosting the YouTube clip was only created on December 12th, 2019, which at the time of writing is still unverified. Fortunately, though, a post on Business Wire confirms Prologue to be the next game from Brendan ''PlayerUnknown'' Greene and his development studio we know as PlayerUnknown Productions.
The microsite set up for Prologue tells us, "Prologue is an exploration of new technologies and gameplay," and adds, "Our aim with this game is to give players unique and memorable experiences, each and every time they play."
To get further information, insiders can sign up to the website, which sends the user an email that states, "Thanks for signing up to hear about Prologue," "We have been hard at work for the past nine months building a team, figuring out what we wanted to do, and then trying to see if we could actually do it.
It continues, "Last month, we proved a concept, and that gave us the confidence to show our teaser to the world. The game still has some time to go before we are ready to share more, so please bear with us.
"Before I go, I want to give a shout out to the wonderful folks I get to work with and who will help me deliver some memorable games to everyone. They are some of the brightest, most passionate researchers and developers I have had the pleasure of meeting. And they all are committed delivering to a shared vision, which is, simply, to make great games.
"So, thank you once again for joining us, as we step into the unknown to experiment, explore and create," the email is signed off by "PlayerUknown."
It's worth noting that Prologue bears no relation to the new PUBG story mode that's been lead by Glen Schofield, ex-boss of Sledgehammer. Instead, Prologue is an entirely independent project from Greene, PUBG's creator.
In a press statement, Greene tells us "Our studio was founded with the goal of exploring, experimenting, and creating new technologies and gameplay experiences," He added, "With Prologue, we are taking our first steps toward building new technologies and interactions that will help develop my ideas into reality."
He goes on to say, "I have been given a once in a lifetime chance to deliver something new on a global stage. Being given a platform to build a brand-new experience outside of the Battle Royale genre is an amazing gift, and one I don't want to squander,"
