It's inevitable, gaming headsets are improving all the time, and a hefty price tag no longer means you'll be getting the best bang for your buck. The fact is, every gamer wants something different from their headset, whether it's sound quality, comfort, or endless battery life. The 2019 edition of the Steelseries Arctis 7 came up as one of our favorite gaming headsets this year, and here's why.
The most comfortable headset, ever?
What's the point of having a headset with an excellent battery life if you can't wear it for hours? Comfort is a must for long gaming sessions, and the award-winning Arctis 7s deliver on this from the moment you put them on until hours later. A ski-goggle band is what makes these unique, which ensure the weight of the headset is distributed evenly. The soft Airweave passing on each earcup combines to provide unmatched comfort.
The sound that immerses you
Every gamer using a headset wants to feel like they're a part of the game, who doesn't right!? The Arctis 7s use the same drivers for their speakers found in Steelseries top-end headsets, so you know you're getting the very best sound. The surround sound delivers directional sounds, so you know exactly where the audio is coming from, perfect for a quick 360 when someone creeps up on you. Crisp vocals, epic bass, and crystal-clear music add to how great this headset is.
When using the Arctis 7 on PC, players also have the option of using the Steelseries Engine to customize their sound experience. Tweak setting such as using the 7.1 surrounds or only using the stereo to deliver the desired performance.
The microphone is fully retractable and uses the SteelSeries Clearcast technology to deliver an average level of performance. The mic is probably a lesser favorite feature, but it meets the needs of game chat as required.
Hooking up the headset
Let's face it; nobody likes loads of cables hanging around. One of the best features that the Arctis 7s promise to deliver is a 'lag-free' audio experience when using them in unison with the wireless transmitter. Testing the cans out first-hand has shown that they live up to expectations, with almost zero breaks in wireless audio. The Arctis 7s come equipped to get hooked up to a PS4, PC or MAC using the wireless transmitter included. Xbox One is also supported, but to enable this, you'd need to use the included Aux cable, although that's pretty simple.
The Steelseries Arctis 7s is a fantastic set of cans, provide an excellent battery life, immersive sound, and an unrivaled level of comfort. They currently retail at around $112 at the time of writing, which is an excellent price for a genuinely competitive gaming headset.
Which headset are you currently using for your long gaming sessions? Are you due for an upgrade? The SteelSeries Arctis 7s is undoubtedly a worthy contender to most cans around the same price range.
